What “Not” To Give As A Wedding Gift!

Rate this post

With the wedding season being just around the corner, invitations are flooding in. We as guests, should try and gift our loved ones something that they wouldn’t pass on or throw away. Often, we choose generic and monotonous gifts, stereotypical to marriages. But with the change in trends and customs, our choice of gifts should also be modernized to match the vibe of the young couple. Here’s a guide of what “not” to give as a wedding gift, to help you save from being banal and boring.

  1. Flowers and Bouquets

Gifting flowers to the newlyweds simply show the thoughtlessness of the guests. This might seem as the easiest gift option, but it actually finds no place in the couple’s house. Instead of buying flowers and bouquets, go for something like, potted flower plants or indoor plants which can at least be nurtured and grown.

  1. Idols and Religious Figurines

Weddings are the religious and auspicious affair, with many superstitious beliefs attached to them. Gifting idols may seem perfect at first, but who wants a room full of God’s idols and sculptures? One can’t throw them away or dispose them either. The only option left for the couple is to pass them on, forming a vicious circle.

  1. Glassware and Dinner Sets

Unless we know the couple’s taste, gifting crockery may also be a bad idea. Newlyweds wish to set up their house according to their taste. In this scenario, gifting glassware is like enforcing our choice on the couple. Often, glassware gets damaged during transportation, ruining the whole essence of the gift.

  1. Kitchen Gadgets

Bulky kitchen gadgets cost a good price to us and many times they are disliked by the couple. The couple might have already purchased kitchen essentials, suitable for their home. Our gift may be a bit too large or offbeat in accordance to their kitchen. So it’s better to eliminate the idea of gifting kitchen gadgets.

  1. Chocolates and Sweets

Gifting sweets and chocolates in a wedding is the most foolish idea ever. Firstly, weddings are all about food and feasting. Sweets and snacks are an integral part of the celebration. The couple is already loaded with a lot of food. Our gift might turn stale or go bad till the time they are desired to be eaten.

  1. Gift for half the couple

Often, we choose gifts which only target half the couple. Gifts like makeup kit for the bride or perfume set for the groom does not promote the unity of the couple. Instead , the gift like a couple watch set is more suited and liked by the couple.
