Rain showers have always enjoyed a romantic reputation. Small wonder then that a monsoon wedding is considered a dreamy affair! The weather is incredibly pleasant during this time, a welcome affair from the scorching heat of the summer. You and your guests can really let their hair down and enjoy!
However, planning a monsoon wedding needs some foresight and planning; otherwise, your special day can easily turn into a disaster! Here are some wedding planner tips to get you started!
What to do???
- The venue – That the wedding venue should be an indoor one goes without saying. An air-conditioned one is preferable since although temperatures are down during monsoons, some parts of India also get incredibly humid during this time
- Outfits – These should be of lightweight material like lace, georgette, chiffon or lace. For free movement and also to avoid unfortunate staining at the hem, keep all outfits at ankle length. Also, go for bright, bold colours to really stand out
- Catering – Make sure the staple monsoon dishes are on offer such as piping hot samosas, jalebis, dosas, pakoras, soups, pav bhaji and choco-lava cake!
- Arrangements – The soothing sound of raindrops can quickly turn into an irritant for your guests without adequate wide-brimmed umbrellas and valet parking services
- Theme – Make the most of the rains with rain themed events such as rain dancing!
What not to do???
- Jewellery – Don’t get decked out in so much heavy jewellery that you find it hard to move about. Remember, a monsoon wedding encourages you to enjoy the festivities! Also, avoid wearing any fake jewellery which can react badly with your skin
- Decorations – Avoid decorating your venue with real flowers which tend to droop when wet. Use artificial ones instead
- Makeup – Don’t wear heavy makeup. Keep your makeup light and waterproof
- Hair – Make sure you opt for a braid, bun or updo instead of leaving hair loose. In monsoon, loose hair quickly turns frizzy, a nightmare for any bride!
- Footwear – Don’t opt for stilettos or heels. Instead, pick colourful Mojris, Jootis and Wedges which will provide balance and reduce the possibility of slipping
- Health – Don’t drink anything cold which can, in turn, bring you down with a cold!
And the biggest wedding planner tip of all – Enjoy yourself!
